Going fishing

On an afternoon walk at Half Moon Bay at Bucklands Beach in Auckland, we came upon a family going fishing.  We asked the father what kind of fish they hoped to catch.
He said they didn't really come expecting to catch any fish...

...they came more to "catch" a nice day at the ocean and some time together.

The seagulls and shore birds spend their days "going fishing"...fish are their favorites but they will settle for most anything...especially left over french fries.
The birds did get this one, but not a good day for the fish.
Some days the catch is plentiful, other days its pretty lean and
we don't end up with the catch we hoped for...
so sometimes we just "fish" for other things

Around here some folks do get out in their boat to go fishing with a specific "catch" in mind,
but, often, like the "fishing "family", they just get away on a nice day to
just "go fishing" for something else.
We decided to just go fishing to catch a bit of nature
...and the wharf waters.
Oh, yes...and a bit of our favorite ice cream...

A note from a fisherman's wife..
In our "fishing" we also came across some of the late fall blooms

That evening we took our camera "fishing" for a sunset...not hard to catch around here.

Our Tuesday Night class, fishing for gospel truths and a little chicken tortilla soup to top it off.  They found both and always good mates too.

Devotional fishers.  Sister Missionaries did our devotional, they are wonderful at providing a great catch!

We found that the prophet Wilford Woodruff was an avid fisherman...loved going fishing.  We know many who find going fishing quiet and rejuvenating.  And some actually catch real fish!

We find "going fishing" for new places to see and new "fish and chips" spots with good friends is likewise pretty rejuvenating.
Kohimarama and Whakatiwai on the Firth of Thames with the Wrights and the Couchs.  Along the shore we found many Kina and Oyster shells left by successful and hungry fishermen.

This underwater photo on the right would be what a kina fisherman's dream would look like.

We used to have some birdseed on our patio.  Here a little songbird with a good memory came fishing for any left over seed.

Loved the fall countryside so snapped a photo.  Couldn't get the cows and sheep to look up even for a second to pose for this photo...they were too busy fishing for grass for lunch.

The Savior taught some who were expert fishermen that for them
the time was right to put away the nets for fish
and go fishing for greater catches,
the kind that feed more than the body,
catches that feed the soul.

We approach the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints General Conference this weekend seeking inspirational catches for the soul.

Hopefully when we get that inspiration we seek that we are all willing to then go fishing,
or tend sheep,
or go or do whatever He needs us to do.

This is short...the blog site is having trouble and no amount of "fishing"
through solutions seems to help.
Hopefully better and more next week.
But know we love you and hope your week of whatever kind of "fishing" you are into
yields peace and direction and good things to fill you up.
He lives, and is the Source of all good things.

Love,
Elder and Sister Downs
Vance and Louenda
